A headless Shopify store for an Indian artisanal brand with a bilingual AI shopping assistant, plus an embedded Admin app for AI copywriting, review summaries and checkout extensions.

Overview

Navyora is an end-to-end headless Shopify build for an artisanal Indian home-decor and Ayurvedic brand. A server-rendered Hydrogen storefront is paired with an embedded Shopify Admin app that brings AI into both the shopping experience and the merchant's back office, along with theme, checkout and discount extensions that run natively inside Shopify.

The challenge

Small Indian D2C brands want the speed and design freedom of a custom storefront without giving up Shopify's checkout, apps and admin. They also need features that standard themes don't handle well: pincode-based delivery checks, cash on delivery, Hindi-speaking shoppers and gifting-led discovery around festivals.

Navyora had to show how far a Shopify brand can go: a fast headless store, an AI assistant that understands how Indian shoppers actually ask for gifts, and merchant tools that save hours of copywriting and review moderation, all built on Shopify's own extension points so nothing breaks on upgrade.

Architecture

The storefront is Shopify Hydrogen with React Router v7, Vite and Tailwind CSS v4, deployed to an Oxygen edge worker. Pages stream server-rendered HTML and defer non-critical data such as reviews and recommendations; images are served through the Shopify CDN, and every page carries OpenGraph and JSON-LD data. A custom Indian brand palette and editorial typography give the brand its look, and a pincode checker confirms serviceability and cash on delivery.

The AI shopping engine parses conversational prompts into structured constraints (price, recipient, category, occasion) and answers in English or Hindi through a floating assistant on every page, rendering live product cards with prices and links inside the chat. A co-purchase engine powers “frequently bought together” bundles.

The embedded Admin app runs on Remix with Shopify App Bridge, Polaris and Prisma. It offers a merchant dashboard for AI search, assistant conversions, top queries and zero-result searches; an AI content studio with tone selection, diff review and bulk GraphQL write-back; review moderation with AI pros-and-cons summaries stored in metaobjects and metafields; and model selection with monthly budget caps. Extensions add a drag-and-drop gift-finder quiz to any Online Store 2.0 theme via the app proxy, a WebAssembly bundle discount at checkout, and a Thank-You page WhatsApp opt-in. A seed tool generates 8 collections, 52 products, 100 customers, 330 reviews and 300 orders through an idempotent GraphQL loader.

Hydrogen headless storefront

Shopify Hydrogen with React Router v7, Vite and Tailwind CSS v4 on Oxygen, with streaming SSR, Shopify CDN image optimisation, OpenGraph tags and JSON-LD.

Bilingual AI shopping assistant

Turns prompts like “gift for mom under ₹1500” into price, recipient, category and occasion filters, replies in English or Hindi, and shows live product cards with INR prices inside the chat.

Built for Indian shoppers

6-digit pincode serviceability and cash-on-delivery checks, free-shipping incentives and a “frequently bought together” engine for cross-category bundles.

AI content studio

Bulk product copywriting in selectable brand tones with side-by-side diff review of original versus AI copy and one-click write-back through GraphQL mutations.

Review summaries as metaobjects

Reviews stored as native Shopify metaobjects, with an AI summariser writing structured pros and cons into product metafields.

Shopify extensibility suite

An Online Store 2.0 gift-finder quiz block, a WebAssembly bundle-discount Function at checkout, and a Thank-You page extension for WhatsApp opt-in and review incentives.

Engineering decisions

  • Go headless with Hydrogen for a fast, fully branded storefront, while keeping checkout and discounts native to Shopify.
  • Deliver merchant features as an embedded app and native extensions, so they work with any theme and survive Shopify upgrades.
  • Let merchants pick the model and set monthly budget caps, so AI costs cannot run away.
  • Seed realistic demo data (52 products, 100 customers, 330 reviews, 300 orders) with an idempotent, resettable loader.
